That’s why we want you to get to know the team caring for you. Every Wednesday, we’ll spotlight a different provider, service or initiative to share with you. This week, get to know our Sleep Medicine Specialist, Dr. Daniel Thielemann.

Dr. Daniel Thielemann joined First Coast Cardiovascular Institute in August 2011. Dr. Thielemann attended medical school at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Thielemann traveled to Pittsburgh, PA., to complete a one-year internship in Internal Medicine and a three-year residency in Neurology at Allegheny General Hospital. It was during this time frame that he first discovered and became passionate about the rapidly growing subspecialty field of sleep disorders and elected to pursue this as a career. After selecting his new focus, Dr. Thielemann continued his training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where he completed a one-year fellowship in Sleep Medicine.

Outside of Clinic!

What motivates you to get up in the morning?

It depends on the day. Most days it is a sense of duty and the desire to honorably complete a clinic. Many days it is an incredible gratitude for life itself and that sense of how precious the moments truly are. On the most challenging days, it might be a devotion to my wife and children.

If you could only keep five things, what would they be?

Faith, wisdom, knowledge, health, & my family

Describe a good day for you.

It would involve a sampling of classical symphony, books, the gym, my children, the ocean, and a date with my lovely wife.

Tell us about your family.

Most of the family I knew growing up spent their entire lives in the countryside of Mississippi. My father was a very hard-working, strong, and honest man. He flew the T-2 Buckeye training aircraft as an instructor for naval aviators before I was born. He loved fishing and hunting. My mother is an intelligent, loyal, and deeply loving person. She was an English teacher before becoming a professional grandparent. She adores books, sunsets, and Christmas lights. My wife is a beautiful person with the most noble character of anyone I’ve ever met. She is the best thing that ever happened to me. She grew up in rural Mississippi. She loves water skiing, cooking, reading, musicals, and the beach.
