That’s why we want you to get to know the team caring for you. Every Wednesday, we’ll spotlight a different provider, service or initiative to share with you. This week, get to know Dr. Bassem Philip, our partner at Jacksonville Clinic. He is a Primary Care Physician practicing on the Westside

Dr. Philip describes coming to work every day as one big puzzle. “Every day is a challenge. The most challenging diagnosis is like one big puzzle I have to solve,” Dr. Philip says. While challenging, Dr. Philip says this is the best part about coming to work. “I come to work knowing I will be able to help someone that day,” he says.

Dr. Philip was inspired to become a physician after seeing his father practice medicine. “Growing up, I wanted to be a scientist who doubled as a secret agent,” Dr. Philip laughs, “Seeing my father practice and seeing the value he added to people’s lives pushed me to pursue medicine.”

After making this decision, Dr. Philip attended medical school at Cairo University. He then completed his residency and internship in Internal Medicine at New York Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Philip chose to go into internal medicine because he believes it is the art of healing. “Internal medicine focuses on the body as a whole,” Dr. Philip says, “My patients come from various backgrounds but are all seeking the comprehensive care internal medicine provides.”

Dr. Philip is an avid tennis player. “On my weekends, I’ll play tennis, then more tennis, then watch a game of tennis,” Dr. Philip says. He also enjoys biking, salsa dancing and reading poetry.
Dr. Philip says a day on the beach with his wife and son makes for a perfect day. “I especially love when the sun is shining but there is still a cool breeze,” Dr. Philip says, “There’s nothing better than sharing that with my loves ones.”
