The Benefits of Napping

Adults and children all around the world love to nap. But did you know that there are health benefits to napping?

According to the American Heart Association, there are three main benefits to napping.

These benefits are:

  • Attitude Adjustment: After a nap, your mood will improve significantly. You will be able to deal with frustration better and you will be less likely to be impulsive.
  • Improved Memory: After you take a nap, it will be easier to remember facts that you learned earlier that day.
  • Increased Alertness: You will be more alert and focused.

In order to receive all the benefits of napping, it is best to follow a few basic guidelines.

When should I take my nap?

-The American Heart Association recommends napping in the mid-afternoon. If you nap later in the afternoon or in the evening, you risk interrupting your bedtime routine and nighttime sleep.

How long should I take my nap?

-In order to avoid waking up in deep sleep, the American Heart Association recommends napping for about 20 minutes.

Plan Your Naps: According to the American Heart Association, plan where and when you would like to take your nap. This will allow your nap to be more relaxing.

Whenever you feel tired and are in need of a nap, remember there are benefits! Follow these guidelines and take a good nap!
