Myra Shares Her Tips To Prevent Adult Acne

IMG_9373rt5x7Many of us think we leave the worries of acne in our teen years. However, 70% of adults between the ages of 20-50 experience outbreaks of adult onset acne. Nurse Practitioner Myra Golmayo gives tips to prevent acne in your adult years:

  • Keep your face and other affected areas clean | Wash your face at least twice a day with a mild, alcohol-free cleanser.
  • Avoid oil-based makeup remover and facial cleansers | Experts say oil facilitates acne growth and can lead to increased inflammation and irritation.
  • Never sleep with makeup on | Most commercially prepared beauty enhancement products contain chemicals that may be harmful to your face, attract dirt, clog pores and contribute to acne formation.
  • Change your pillowcase at least once weekly | Dirt accumulates in areas with repeated exposure. Pillows are very intimate to your face and therefore, need to be clean at all times.
  • Over-the-counter benzoil peroxide may be helpful | It has been used for many decades with promising results. Pick the one that has an easily absorbed base, that’s more ideal for you. After all, each individual is unique.
  • Keep your skin moisturized | A non oil-based moisturizer is best.
  • Watch what you put on your hair | Pomades, fragrances and oils may easily come in contact with your face and cause acne occurrence.
