Dr. Imran S. Farooq attended medical school at the prestigious Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar’s six year accelerated program. He graduated with honors and then went on to complete his internship and residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He then pursued a chief residency year followed by a Master’s in Healthcare Administration at VCU as well. He is a gifted educator and was awarded numerous teaching and medical education awards including being inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha as well as being awarded the Gold Humanism in Medicine Award. Dr. Farooq subsequently went on to complete his general cardiology fellowship at VCU and was Chief Fellow in his final year. He finished his fellowship with the awards for Outstanding Graduating Cardiology fellow and Exemplary Leadership.
Dr. Farooq then moved to University of Miami/Jackson Memorial to complete his interventional cardiology fellowship. After finishing, he moved to Orlando and joined University of Central Florida as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and joined faculty at Orlando VA Medical Center where he practiced as an Interventional Cardiologist.
Dr. Farooq is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in nuclear cardiology by the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology, and in vascular interpretation by the Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement.
His interests include coronary interventions, mechanical circulatory support, and endovascular arterial and venous interventions.
Dr. Farooq is married to Dr. Uzma Khan. They have three lovely daughters. Away from work, Dr. Farooq likes to enjoy his family time as a busy dad, play tennis, and workout.
